Simple vs. Easy - An Online Mystery By Maggie Lietz - Copyright © 2003
No matter where you go online, you'll ultimately run into some form of advice that indicates making a living over the Internet is something anyone can do. And there's no doubt whatsoever that it's true.
The World Wide Web is a level playing field. Anyone with a computer and Internet access can conduct business. And across the board, no one is more likely to achieve financial success, no one smarter or more educated or savvy than the next guy.
Basically, we're all created equal online and have the same ability and opportunity to reach whatever level of success we envision. So why is it that so many individuals who come online seeking their own piece of the action wind up failing miserably?
It all comes down to simple vs. easy. Granted, the Internet makes it simple for anyone from anywhere to develop an online business. What most people don't realize, however, is that it's nowhere close to being easy to turn that business into a success.
You're not going to come online one day and be rich the next. You're not going to activate a website and suddenly be fielding sales orders left and right. And you're not going to send out a few thousand emails and automatically develop a solid relationship with thousands of recipients.
A wise person once said, "nothing worth having ever comes easy". Apparently, that person never spoke with most of the people coming online with dreams of making their fortune. And even if that person had spoken with them, the dreamers would never have listened.
And it's not because the dreamers are close-minded or the idea of having a dream is unrealistic. It's not. It's due to the fact that everywhere you turn there's someone telling you how wealthy and successful you can be. Just do this or that, buy this particular ebook or software, or simply create a mindset that is focused on becoming rich.
Being constantly bombarded with that sort of advice or directive would naturally lead someone to believe that it doesn't take much to be financially successful online. After all, the people giving the advice have certainly achieved their own level of online wealth, haven't they?
The truth is, some have and some haven't. But that's not really the point. The only thing that's important is the fact that achieving any degree of online success doesn't come without investing a good deal of time and effort.
Simple, yes. You gain access to the Internet, activate a website, and you're in business. But easy? Not even close.
If all anyone had to do (and keep in mind, everyone is equal on this playing field) was perform a certain task or buy one particular ebook or simply develop a focused mindset, don't you think the vast majority would achieve online wealth?
Instead, there are only a small percentage of Internet hopefuls who go on to realize their dream, their goals, their vision of financial success. Are they better than anyone else? Do they possess a higher intelligence? Are they just plain luckier than the average person? Absolutely not.
What they are is realistic. They know right from the start that online success isn't going to be handed to them on a silver platter. But most importantly, they're willing to do whatever it takes to achieve their own success.
So now the only question is... what are you willing to do?
Are you prepared to invest the time and energy it takes to achieve something that's truly worth having? Are you ready to face the reality and cast the vision of overnight success aside? Will you stand up to any disappointment or difficulty and then embrace the determination to dig in even harder?
If your response is affirmative, I'll guarantee you've got a decent shot at online success. But that's the only thing anyone can guarantee. A fair shot. The same one everybody else gets. Of course, what you choose to do with that opportunity or how far you take it is entirely up to you.
And don't believe anyone who tells you there's only one road to online success. There isn't. The principles and guidelines that get you there might be inherently the same, but you have to choose what's best for you personally.
If you're not sure about what direction you'd like to take, then examine all the possibilities beforehand. Establish what excites you, what motivates you, what strengths and weaknesses you have that will either help or hinder your endeavors.
Learn and absorb every bit of information you possibly can along the way. Listen to what others have to say, how they've achieved their own success, but don't follow them blindly. Use your own judgement in determining what path you should take.
Be a rogue, be a maverick, be a pioneer. Take something someone else has done and do it different, make it better, make it your own. But whatever direction you take, stop thinking about what you want from the Internet and just do it.
You know the saying, today is the first day of the rest of your life? It is. But it can also be true tomorrow and the next day and the day after that. And before you know it, there won't be many "first" days left to draw from.
It might not be easy to become financially successful online, but it most certainly is possible. And not just for "lucky" or "special" or "chosen" individuals. It's possible for each and every person who is willing to dig in their heels and invest whatever time and effort it takes.
Are you up to the challenge? I'm one person who's betting you are. ;-)
