Success Formula 2 - Content Website
by Scott Price - Copyright © 2007
Most experts encourage you to create multiple mini websites that carry their own domain name and are hosted independently. While on some level that might be productive, it's not necessarily the best formula for success.
For one thing, it can take a considerable amount money to support all of those independent websites. Unless you have unlimited funds available, it's going to be mighty difficult to afford while you're waiting for the sales to come rolling in.
And what if the sales never meet your expectations? What do you do then? Start removing websites from the Internet? If you don't have the money to continue supporting them, that's exactly what you'll be forced to do.
The preferred formula for success is to develop a primary website, one that involves an overall theme or concept based on whatever product or service you plan to specialize in.
Basically, this main website is the hub (or center) of any and all additional endeavors, either directly or indirectly related to your main concept.
Each time you "plug in" a new product or service, you create another page that is devoted to that particular product or service exclusively. So rather than having an entirely separate website, it's simply an extension of the main URL address.
Actually, it's based on the same principle as a content-driven website. The only difference is, the pages also lead to entirely separate business endeavors rather than just unlimited pages of related content.
For example, Ebookhelper.com is the primary website. But beyond the usual content such as articles and resources, there are links to individual products and services (web design, ghostwriting, 3D ebook covers, reprint rights, etc.).
Each one of those areas could easily have been placed on their own separate mini website. But there are distinct advantages to keeping other areas linked to the main site (other than the cost of domain names and hosting).
For one thing, it doesn't matter how a viewer gets to your website. No matter what page they land on, they still have complete access to everything else you offer.
Which also applies to search engine optimization. If the entire website is theme oriented, any visitors you bring to a specific page will most likely be equally interested in one or more of your other areas or products.
Plus, in the event you set up an affiliate program, each affiliate has the same advantage that the main website affords. And since there's more than one product available, the affiliate has a much higher level of earning potential.
The biggest challenge with this type of formula is establishing your primary navigation links. It's not a problem when there's only a few pages, but once a website grows to considerable size, adding navigation links to each and every page can be quite time consuming.
To avoid any complications, it's important to plan ahead. You might not be able to anticipate every future change or development, but at least you won't be stuck with a navigation system that doesn't perform properly.
Of course, if your navigation menu is located in a seperate file that gets inserted on your pages through methods like PHP or server side includes or JavaScript, you won't have to worry about proper navigation. Updates to that single file will automatically change navigation throughout the entire website.
So before you go out and purchase all those additional domain names and hosting accounts, consider the formula that numerous successful marketers have chosen... the content website.
It not only works, in many respects it's far superior to the multiple mini-site system.
