Building Wagon Wheel Websites
by Scott Price - Copyright © 2006
The "experts" tell you it's all about creating hundreds of websites, each one devoted to an individual niche market. And each one is geared toward selling a specific product.
The more websites you build, the more niche-targeted traffic you'll receive. The more traffic you receive the more products you'll sell and the more money you'll make.
In fact, you'll make SO much money, you'll need an armoured truck to haul it all to the bank.
What a load of bull.
How many people do you know who are capable of investing the time and resources necessary to handle all that research and website development? Hundreds of topics, hundreds of domain names, hundreds of websites to design and maintain, hundreds of monthly web hosting costs.
How many people do you know who would even be capable of coming up with hundreds of good quality niche markets in the first place? Where do you begin, how do you know what niche will be profitable, how do you come up with unique content for each market, how do you choose the right products to promote?
Are YOU capable of doing it? Do you even want to?
If the idea of researching, building, and maintaining hundreds of niche websites leaves a bad taste in your mouth, here's some really good news...
Look around you. What do the highest ranking businesses (the ones that are making tons of money) all have in common? If you said they operate from ONE single monster-size website, you would be absolutely correct.
Mind you, that's not to say there's no place for smaller niche websites. But when you think about all the time and effort that goes into research and building hundreds of niche websites, why not simply invest all that time and energy into one project?
Just pick one specific category or topic. Let's use ebooks as an example. Within that particular topic, there are varied sub-categories like writing ebooks, creating ebooks, selling ebooks, promoting ebooks, making ebook covers, reviewing ebooks, etc.
Most likely, you don't have a tremendous amount of knowledge or expertise with regard to ALL those information areas. However, you do happen to know quite a bit about the overall topic. So the foundation for your website will be "everything about ebooks".
Think of it as the hub of a wagon wheel, the centerpoint from which all the other ebook areas of interest radiate. Each one is a spoke in the wheel, and each one can be added individually.
Not only will you steadily develop the website, you have the luxury of deciding which area you add or work on next. No pressure because the main website (the hub) is already in place. It's simply a matter of adding more spokes and then gradually developing those areas.
So you start with a broad category - ebooks. Next, you determine the primary focus and direction you want the website to encompass. Then you begin to add content (articles, tutorials, ebook reviews, etc.).
Once you've got the hub firmly established, you can begin adding the individual spokes, which would be any and all sub-categories (ebook writing, compiling, promoting, selling, reviews).
This not only gives you a solid website, it allows you the ability to continue building and developing at your own pace. And since you're working with a specific "theme", coming up with additional spokes won't be near as difficult as trying to come up with entirely new niche markets.
So here's some food for thought...
If you started building a wagon wheel website today - and assuming you only have a small amount of time each week to work on that site - you could have a permanent well-established online business bringing in substantial cash by this same time next year.
Does that seem too far away for you to even consider? Then you need to think about how fast the previous year flew by, or the year before that. Think about all the time you spent merely "contemplating" the best way to generate online income.
The choice is clear. You can keep thinking about making money. Or you can actually start doing something about it... one wagon wheel spoke at a time!
