Digital Ebook

The phrase digital ebook is kind of redundant when you consider an ebook is in fact computer based - ergo, digital.

But that's the problem. Most people don't even realize an ebook is nothing more than a digital computer file.

Most likely, it's because the word ebook conjures up an image similar to a tangible book. And since most ebooks are designed with individual pages, just like a real book, it's no wonder there's a bit of confusion.

The truth is, no matter how much they're made to look and feel like their paper counterparts, ebooks will always remain digital.

You create them using either PDF or ebook compiler software. What that gives you is a standalone file which can be downloaded, distributed, deleted - just like any other computer file. The difference, however, is appearance and functionality.

For one thing, most ebooks have a cover image which represents the content. And, of course, includes the title of the ebook.

Inside the ebook are pages carrying designs that range from plain text to elaborate layouts. But that's pretty much were tangible books and digital ebooks part company.

In a digital ebook, you'll most likely find navigation links, just like you would on a web page. Those links can take the user to different areas of the ebook as well as external sites.

Depending on the security settings established for any given digital ebook, users can be restricted from copying and pasting content or even opening the ebook.

You can also restrict users further by implementing registration and password. Without them, the content of the ebook (or designated areas of content) cannot be accessed.

That's the beauty of a digital ebook. You can incorporate numerous functions and features, all contained in one handy file.

Some marketers even include forms within the pages of a digital ebook. For example, an optin signup whereby the owner of the ebook captures the user's name and email address in exchange for free information, software, or another bonus ebook.

Basically, a digital ebook presents users with a fully interactive product. How much you implement is entirely your choice.

The benefit? That a digital ebook gives you possibilities no other publication can. Not bad for just another computer file!
