How To Download PDF
by Maggie Lietz - Copyright © 2008
One of the most common files online is PDF. Common enough that most everyone with a computer has encountered one at some time or another.
Even so, PDF still remains this elusive object to many. How to make one, how to download one. And that's probably because the PDF happens to be different than the average file, the ones most users are accustom to.
Of all the mysteries, though, the one that stands out the most is how to download PDF.
Like everything else about the PDF, there's more to it than simply downloading an ebook and that's probably why so many people wind up asking the same question.... "how to download pdf".
The truth is, it's quite simple, once you know how. So let's get right to it.
With any normal download, you simply click on a link. And since most links say something like "click here to download", there's not a lot of brain power that goes into deciding what to do.
Unfortunately, PDF has to complicate things. If you simply click on the link, the PDF opens in a browser window. (What's up with that?)
And, if the PDF happens to be a rather large file (which a good many of them are), you sit there waiting and waiting and waiting. Then, when it finally does finish load, you have to figure out what to do with it.
Fortunately, there's that recognizable icon up on the left-hand side. Click on that and then go through the process of saving the PDF to your own computer.
Or, if you're more of a traditionalist, you can click on "File" in the top left-hand corner and then "Save as...". Either way, it saves the PDF to your computer.
Of course, if we were talking about any other file format, that would be the beginning and end of it. But not when it comes to PDF.
If you RIGHT click the download link, a menu will appear that allows you to immediately save the PDF to your computer - without it opening in a browser window first. Just choose "Save target as" and then save as usual.
Can't even figure out how or where to save the PDF (or any other file) on your computer? Or worse, locate the darn thing after you do manage to save it? That's a whole other topic which you can read about in yet another handy tutorial, How To Save Ebooks.
